Review: 4 Syrups from Liquid Alchemist

Review: 4 Syrups from Liquid Alchemist

Liquid Alchemist has more flavors than I can count — at least a dozen — and all are authentic as they get, made with their named ingredients and cane sugar, plus maybe a little citric acid. We’ve reviewed Liquid Alchemist’s orgeat in the past — not my favorite — and today we take a spin with four additional flavors from the operation. Let’s dive in.

Liquid Alchemist Passion Fruit Syrup – A golden syrup perfect (and essential) for a Hurricane, this features moderated sweetness and plenty of fresh, authentic fruit flavor to really brighten it up. Riding the line between pineapple and mango, it’s an outstanding product that is even wonderful to drink mixed with seltzer. For a fun punch recipe with this syrup, see below. Liquid Alchemist Tamarindo Syrup – I love tamarind soda, but a little of this syrup goes a long way, and if not used sparingly it will overwhelm a cocktail. I’m literally talking about 1/4 ounce or less. Again the flavor is on point, but that sharp-and-sour tamarind flavor really endures on the finish, ultimately overstaying its welcome a bit. B+ [BUY IT NOW FROM AMAZON]

Liquid Alchemist Peach Syrup – Peach-flavored products have a tendency to run sweet, and this syrup is no exception. The balance here runs heavily to the sugar, and while the peach character is present, it becomes extremely cloying and candylike in short order. As with the tamarindo, this is best in very small doses, but for a different reason. Try using as a substitute for standard simple syrup if you want to imbue a drink with a little peachy kick. B [BUY IT NOW FROM AMAZON]

Liquid Alchemist Apple Spice Syrup – The spices in question are ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. Very sweet but less overwhelming than the peach syrup, this feels exactly like a wintry apple cider in condensed form. Again, I recommend you use it sparingly for fear of overpowering whatever it is you’re mixing it into, but for cocktailcrafters looking for a quick shortcut to a fall harvest beverage, you could definitely do worse. B+ [BUY IT NOW FROM AMAZON]
