Review: 2022 Coppo Monteriolo Piemonte DOC Coppo’s latest is 100% chardonnay grown at 650 feet above sea level on calcareous clay marl soil rich in silt here in Piedmont. After soft pressing, the wine ferments and ages on the lees in French oak barrels with regular bâtonnage.

Bright with notes of lemon and grapefruit, this fruit-forward expression balances its lemon curd sensibility with elements of jasmine, lilac, and a bit of eucalyptus. Sharp and highly acidic as it develops, the wine finds a minerality and salinity that tempers the burst of flavor that kicks things off, giving the finish a more cleansing quality that’s touched with aromatic camphor in the best possible way.
