Review: 2019 Dobbes Pinot Noir Grand Assemblage Willamette Valley

The “Grand Assemblage” in question is a selection of different Oregon vineyards, all prized for the pinot noir grapes that Dobbes Family Estate uses to make this delightful wine. It’s a gorgeous, balanced pinot — notes of graphite and slate lead to a palate that’s infused with brambly blackberry, cola, black tea, and just a hint of peppermint. Lingering notes of earthy clove, reduced plum, and licorice weigh in as the wine develops in the glass, but the experience never becomes weighty or overblown, shifting gently from one element to the other. The fade-out is cleansing and brisk, a reminder of all the delights that well-crafted pinot noir can offer — and at a wholly affordable price, to boot.
