Review: De Soi Non-Alcoholic Aperitifs (Updated 2025)
I don’t even know how to pronounce “De Soi,” but I do know this: It’s the latest celebrity-backed beverage (via Katy Perry), though this time it’s not a whiskey or a tequila but rather a non-alcoholic seltzer of sorts. Adaptogens including l-theanine, reishi mushroom, and lion’s mane are used in the recipes.
Now available in five flavors, we received the company’s latest, its first seasonal offering, to check out.
Update: We’re adding coverage of additional De Soi offerings here as they arrive.
De Soi St. Moritz Mule Review
The 8 oz can is unassuming, complete with its Helvetica label, minimal description — “pomegranate, cranberry, ginger, rosemary” — and a promise that it is adaptogen rich. Poured on the rocks, the aperitif offers a bittersweet quality that melds clear pomegranate and cherry notes with a slug of gentian and blood orange peel. There’s a vegetal undercurrent that evokes carrots and rhubarb, but this is mild and not at all off-putting. If you’ve ever tried Ghia, the similarity is uncanny, though this is sparkling and more immediately approachable. Ginger — to make it a “mule” — is present but quite dialed back, the result being a fully refreshing concoction that has plenty going on and feels perfectly festive, particularly given the bright red color. And for what it’s worth, I slept great the night after drinking one. Adaptogens FTW? A-
De Soi Haute Margarita Review
Be warned, this is a spicy margarita, and the jalapeno influence is immediate, giving the core of tart lime quite the edge. While flavored with agave nectar and a blend of lime and tangerine juices, it’s not overwhelmingly sweet (even though agave is the first item on the ingredients list). The fruit soon takes on a curious flavor that’s hard to peg — going beyond standard citrus into more of a guava character. The mushroom influence is well-represented, though, giving the beverage a significant earthiness, almost tobacco-like, as it develops in the glass. The punch of jalapeno remains a constant, though. It’s like a margarita, but ultimately it’s not entirely there. B
