Swedish Whisky
Like much of Europe outside of Scotland, Swedish whisky is a very young industry, having gotten its start as recently as 1999, when Mackmyra began operations in the town of Valbo. Swedish whisky is commonly made in the single malt style, and its malt may be smoked with peat and/or juniper branches, giving it a unique character not found in other regions’ whiskies. Fewer than a dozen distilleries in the country are currently producing whisky.
