Flavored Vodka

Flavored vodka is simply vodka to which artificial or (increasingly) natural flavor has been added. This category exploded in popularity in the early 2000s as consumers looked for easy ways to make simple vodka drinks (such as vodka and a mixer) more interesting and flavorful. While the earliest vodka flavors revolved around citrus fruits (lemon and orange being the most popular), vodka flavors quickly devolved almost comically into oddities ranging from hemp to cinnamon rolls to menthol cigarettes. Today the category has pulled back a bit, with more artisanal infusions becoming popular that more closely resemble gin than candy.

By Christopher Null | October 29, 2021 |

Oak-aged vodka has been done before, but never with much success. If you wanted whiskey, you’d drink whiskey, amirite? Review: Smirnoff Spicy Tamarind Vodka

By Christopher Null | March 30, 2021 |

My tamarind fandom is well documented, so naturally when Smirnoff released a tamarind-flavored vodka, I was ready to give it a try. This bottling was originally exclusive to Mexico, where the tamarind is king, but recently it arrived in the U.S., complete with a spooky glows-under-black-light label. As cool as the label is, it’s the…

By Christopher Null | January 4, 2021 |

Finlandia — which is legitimately made in Finland, distilled from Suomi barley — has been around forever, but the brand got a shakeup a few years ago, such that none of the Finlandia expressions we’ve previously reviewed are still available in the U.S. Today, the States have just three versions of the vodka to experience:…

Review: Ciroc White Grape and Pineapple Vodka

By Christopher Null | December 28, 2020 |

France’s Ciroc, which distills its vodka from grapes, recently launched two new flavors. Pineapple is part of the permanent lineup, while White Grape is a “limited edition” flavor — although it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. We tried them both, and our thoughts follow as always. Both are 70 proof. Ciroc White…
