Review: 2022 Lagar de Cervera Albarino

Review: 2022 Lagar de Cervera Albarino

Lagar de Cervera is part of a La Rioja Alta operation that produces white wines — particularly albarino. This wine is sourced from plots in the O Rosal and O Salnés sub-zones, which are part of Rias Baixas, the premiere albarino-producing region in Spain.

It’s a slightly sweeter style of albarino than is typical from the region, bright with notes of Meyer lemon but tempered by more mellow honeydew, green apple, and a light vanilla note. A more sultry guava note, mellowed by some maritime saline notes, emerges in short order, but this doesn’t quite perk up enough acidity to cut through the somewhat sweet attack.

Perfectly acceptable for the price, but perhaps over-ripe for the style — arguably a vintage-related situation given the extreme heat in Spain in 2022. An Asian food pairing seems ideal.
