Review: NV Laurent-Perrier Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature Champagne
We have enjoyed other offerings from popular Champagne producer Laurent-Perrier in the past, and today we try their Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature, which is 100% Chardonnay, spends six years on the lees, and has no dosage.
The Champagne surprised me: trying it blind, I would not have guessed it was zero dosage. The wine is dry, but the rounded, fruity character suggests a light dosage. It pours pale straw in the glass and produces ample, tiny bubbles. The nose is complex, showing green apple, peach, and tart kiwi along with doughy yeast. The palate is silky smooth due to the fine mousse and follows the nose with notes of green apple and peach along with light pineapple. The flavors are well integrated and play together nicely. The wine has medium-high acidity, and it showed its best when I paired it with food, in this case olive tapenade goat cheese crostini. The Champagne was delicious, and the pairing was spot on.
