Review: NV Sandeman Founder’s Reserve Ruby Porto (2023)

Review: NV Sandeman Founder’s Reserve Ruby Porto (2023)

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve had the privilege to review a port from Sandeman, and thus we felt ready for a refresh.

With a deep garnet color in the glass, there is certainly much to appreciate on the nose of Sandeman’s Founder’s Reserve, with roasted plum showing first, along with earthier notes of cedar, leather, and dark cherry with a bit of time in the glass. The palate’s soft tannins play well to a strong cherry core, complemented by notes of graham cracker, vanilla, and underripe strawberry. A long and warming finish full of raisin and dark chocolate complements one another before fleeting hints of cinnamon and oak make an appearance towards the end.

Due to global inflation, the price may have increased, but it’s still a worthy purchase at this, or many other, price points.
