As you might expect, Grenache Blanc wine is typically made with Grenache Blanc grapes, a white varietal related to the red Grenache grape. Dobbes winery, however, makes their Grenache Blanc using red Grenache grapes, but excludes the skins. The grapes for this wine are harvested from the Crater View Vineyard in the Rogue Valley of Oregon. Let’s give it a try.

Pouring a very pale straw color, this wine has a light, gently sweet nose of pear. On the palate, it’s much punchier, offering pear and lychee coupled with tart acidity. Some minerality adds complexity, and there’s a bit of residual sugar as well, providing a touch of sweetness but not too much. All told, this wine is a bit off the beaten path and will appeal to those looking to expand their range of interesting whites. Its high acidity will help it go well with food, and I bet it would pair nicely with Thai curry.
