Review: Los Sundays Tequila, Blanco and Reposado

There isn’t much information available about Los Sundays Tequila. It is double distilled from a blend of highland and lowland, 100% Blue Weber agave and it is said to be sustainably made, sugar free, and gluten free. That’s about it. The website provides little more data, but it does offer for sale a whole bunch of shirts, hats, and additional swag related to the brand. Some seem to be in rather poor taste, and I’ll leave it at that. But let’s give the tequila a try.

Both are 80 proof. NOM 1438.

Los Sundays Tequila Blanco – Clear in color and unaged, this tequila has a subtle and herbaceous nose, offering lightly sweet agave and green pepper notes along with a touch of lime citrus and a slightly off-putting funk. The palate is better and bolder, with enjoyable green pepper and black pepper notes followed by a pleasant finish. Despite being sugar free, the tequila has a gentle, pleasant sweetness. This is a reasonably priced tequila that’s good enough to sip neat and would do well in a range of cocktails. I like it, but I’m not buying one of their shirts. B / $35

Los Sundays Tequila Reposado – The reposado is made with Los Sundays Blanco that has been aged for just under a year in barrels previously used to make Tennessee whiskey, making it almost an añejo. The herbaceous character of the blanco is almost completely gone here, replaced by the influence of the wood, making it bold with vanilla notes. The palate also primarily shows vanilla but includes some black pepper and a touch of milk chocolate. All told, this is a good reposado at a decent price. B+ / $39
