Review: Wines of St. Francis, 2022 Releases

Two new budget-friendly wines from Sonoma’s St. Francis. Let’s give ’em a try.

2020 St. Francis Chardonnay Sonoma County – Brightly fruity with lots of lemon, edged with tropical notes. The oak and vanilla here aren’t overwhelming, but work well to complement the moderated fruit notes, which tilt at tangerine and, eventually, strawberry. Some floral notes on the finish add some intrigue. Solid for the price. B+ / $10 [BUY IT NOW FROM TOTAL WINE]

2019 St. Francis Pinot Noir Sonoma County – Soft but pretty, cherry up front with notes of graphite and cola underneath. A slight sweetness here isn’t unwelcome, the finish landing oh-so-gently on fresh florals and the lightest sprinkle of baking spice. Cinnamon clings to a finish alongside a tenacious maraschino note. B+ / $20
