Review: Bently Heritage Hecate Coffee Liqueur
Bently Heritage’s Nevada-based operation makes vodka, gin, and liqueurs, including a chocolate version and this coffee flavored offering, made from Magpie Roaster’s Pica Pica coffee infused into Bently’s Source One Vodka base. It’s infused with organic cane sugar and a twist of lemon — the latter of which you can definitely taste on the surprisingly fruity palate.
Before we get there, though, let’s talk aromatics, which balance mild-roast coffee beans with gentle sweetness and some bitter citrus peel. It’s not as intense with pure coffee aromas as you’ll find in many competing coffee liqueurs, though that’s not necessarily a negative, as it allows for more nuance to enter the mix. The palate is similar in tone, the coffee character fading somewhat as it mellows in glass, letting the lemon peel show more clearly on the brighter finish. Not as overtly boozy as the chocolate liqueur expression, either.
70 proof.
