Review: Justin 2018 Justification and 2020 Sauvignon Blanc
Two new wines from our friends at Paso Robles’ Justin Winery — and they’re as different as could be.
2018 Justin Justification – 66% cabernet franc, 34% merlot. There’s lots to love here, a rich and delightful wine that’s loaded with both currant and brighter cherry notes. A gentle floral element emerges on the finish, along with a lingering milk chocolate character and just a hint of balsamic. It’s immersive yet balanced thanks to some much-needed acidity in the mix, never coming across as overwhelming or pushy. Perfect for a hearty meal. A / $60 [BUY IT NOW FROM TOTAL WINE]
2020 Justin Sauvignon Blanc Central Coast – Lightly doughy, with clear notes of coconut and gooseberry, this is a mellower expression of sauvignon blanc than the usual grapefruit-fueled expression one gets from most of California. Notes of lime and some bay leaf emerge on the finish. Mild and fairly rounded on the tongue, it’s quite food friendly but works well on its own too. B+ / $16 [BUY IT NOW FROM TOTAL WINE]
