Review: Sokol Blosser 2018 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills and 2020 Rose
Two new wines from our friends at Oregon’s Sokol Blosser.
2018 Sokol Blosser Estate Pinot Noir Dundee Hills – This is a rich and immersive pinot noir, sultry with its initial notes of black cherry, tea leaf, and a gentle hint of cloves, but invariably perky with acidity and plenty of spicy, almost peppery character that lingers into the finish. The wine balances its fruitier elements with a soulful depth that really manages to fire on all cylinders no matter what mood you might be in. Great stuff. A / $42
2020 Sokol Blosser Rose of Pinot Noir Willamette Valley – Quite fruit-forward with strawberries fully in your face, notes of florals — heavy on orange blossoms — come into focus in short order, but the wine feels dialed a bit too far into the realm of sweetness, finishing on slightly daunting notes of candied flowers and marshmallow creme.
