Review: 2018 Flora Springs Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay Family Select
Two new whites, ready for summer sipping, from our friends at Napa’s Flora Springs. Let’s dig in.
2018 Flora Springs Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley – Grassy and fruity on the nose, this wine takes a decidedly sour turn on the palate with a moderate slick of ammonia and a big grapefruit character. Increasingly green as the finish develops, there’s a hint of pineapple that softens the wine on the back end and provides a touch of much-needed sweetness. B / $30
2018 Flora Springs Chardonnay Family Select Napa Valley – Fresh with notes of apples, pears, and lemon curd, but filtered of course through a layer of vanilla and oak. It’s fairly understated for the style, though there’s still enough oak influence to give it the familiar, Cali feeling. As the finish builds, notes of figs and almond nougat start to pop, giving the conclusion a lightly dessert-like character. A- / $36
