Since we can’t be together in person this year, I designed this cocktail for my father’s birthday, a riff on a French 75 that’s built around Jack Daniel’s, of which my dad — Daddy Mack to his grandkids — is an avowed fan. Happy birthday!
The Daddy Mack
1 1/2 oz Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7
1/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz simple syrup
California sparkling wine or Prosecco to top
maraschino or brandied cherry
Place the cherry in the bottom of a Champagne flute. Mix the first three ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake or strain until very cold. Strain into the flute and top with chilled sparkling wine. Stir lightly and serve.
