Review: 2018 Archery Summit Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
A pair of new releases, summer-friendly, from Oregon’s well-known Archery Summit.
2018 Archery Summit Chardonnay Eola-Amity Hills – Surprisingly tight and a little sour up front, this wine exudes notes of lime and unripe apple, both unexpected. The wine does open up as it develops in the glass, with notes of vanilla, coconut, and baked apple all coming to the fore. That lime element lingers forever, though, making for a racy conclusion. 2018 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Dundee Hills – Cola, tea leaf, and graphite all percolate the attack on this nuanced and delightful pinot noir. As the palate develops, watch for black fruit to pop along with a sultry kick of cinnamon. The finish pushes forward with a fistful of baking spice and a note of chocolate, turning a touch bittersweet on the finish. Balanced as if on the head of a pin, it’s nonetheless light and lively with a body that features ample acid. This is one to collect. A / $65
