Review: 2017 Charles Krug Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Review: 2017 Charles Krug Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Krug’s 2017 cab is surprisingly lean and already hitting maturity. The wine (a blend of 87% cabernet sauvignon, 5% merlot, 5% petit verdot, and 3% petite sirah) is dry and very herbal, with a slight oxidized note and lots of green pepper/green onion sitting heavy atop the otherwise straightforward core of currants. Quite tannic as it develops, dark cocoa notes linger on the finish. Drink now.

I am an AA member for a few years after about 50 plus years of active (sometime aggressive) wine an beverage consumption . My wife and son had for Thanksgiving cracked into a few bottles I had left in the cellar and they BOTH commented how nice this wine was. My son (23) not a wine enthusiast, felt this was hugely enjoyable and flavorful. My wife agreed. We both used to dabble in Silver Oak years ago in its prime, and Cakebread and we have always like selective Mondavi and Charles Krug wines. .
