Review: Crown Royal Salted Caramel

Crown Royal has been churning out flavored expressions in recent years, and this might be its most decadent to date: Crown Royal Canadian whisky blended with salted caramel flavoring.

As with other flavored expressions of Crown Royal, the guy in charge of doctoring the whisky has certainly done so with a heavy hand. The nose is redolent of caramel sauce, artificially hyper-sweetened — saccharine, really — with notes of vanilla and burnt sugar, dipping at times into notes of butterscotch. The palate takes no real detours, again extremely sweet with chemical overtones. The finish is pungent with all of the above, but otherwise unremarkable. If there’s a real whisky underneath all of this, it sure isn’t easy to spot.

70 proof.

How about a follow up and the reason Crown Royal has discontinued Salted Caramel?
I emailed them last week and without any explanation -was told there are no plans for future production.
This is the only flavored whiskey I’ve ever liked…and a nice change from the Black or XO.
    Thanks
    Steve
