Review: Thomas Henry Tonic Water and Ginger Beer

Thomas Henry is a German producer of a wide range of mixers — while the real Henry was a British chemist, he wa also a pioneer of carbonated water. For the first time, two of TH’s most popular products — tonic water and ginger beer — are available in 750ml versions. Pricing wasn’t available on the big bottles, so we’ve got info on the standard 200ml versions below. Either way, the product inside is the same… and here’s what we thought about them both.

Thomas Henry Tonic Water – This is a lovely tonic, not too bitter and loaded with lemon peel notes. A gently herbal quality informs the somewhat dusky finish, but on the whole it’s very well balanced from front to back, and it never overpowers the spirit in the mix. A

Thomas Henry Ginger Beer – Spicy, but not overbearing, with tons of fresh ginger and enough sweetness to brighten things up. It’s lightly lemony on the finish, with a note of peach and apricot — but otherwise full throttle on the ginger. A-
