Review: Austin Cocktails Cucumber Vodka Mojito (2019)
Austin Cocktails is a new creator of ready-to-drink cocktails based in, well, I’ll let you guess. It’s a story of entrepreneurs painstakingly looking for the perfect ingredients (or rather, “purveyors of natural juices, essences, and extracts”) for their premium, RTD offering. To date they’ve developed five expressions, and today we look at one, a cucumber vodka mojito.
All cocktails come in standard 750ml bottles. (Note, instructions direct you to serve within 7-10 days of opening.)
No surprises here, this is a mix of vodka, cucumber, mint, lime, and agave. There’s a significant and obvious cucumber effect here, right from the start, giving the whole affair a Hendrick’s kick. Lime and mint are in roughly equal proportions thereafter, but the finish, while sweet, has a saccharine character that lingers a bit harshly on the palate. It’s approachable enough and the price feels right, but one has to wonder how much better this would be with rum instead.
30 proof.
