Review: Lagunitas Born Yesterday Pale Ale 2019

Review: Lagunitas Born Yesterday Pale Ale 2019

Apologies for letting this limited release of Lagunitas slip by for so long. The holidays find us drowning in booze and it can be hard to keep up with it all. (Send your condolences via email, Twitter, or Facebook.) The recipe for Born Yesterday doesn’t really change from year to year — including “11 lbs-per-barrel of Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic and Indigenous Catawampus hops” — but it does evolve a bit over time, and 2019’s has even slightly more alcohol.

It’s also, as always, a winner, loaded with tropical mango and some pineapple, with a touch of sweet almond also showing on the front end. Decidedly hoppy but not aggressively bitter or overwhelmingly piney, it lets its fruit do the heavy lifting while letting the herbaceous notes play the foil. Gorgeous stuff.
