Review: Stone Enjoy By 07.04.19 Unfiltered IPA

Stone Brewing is back with another unfiltered IPA with a patriotic expiration date: The Fourth of July, 2019. It’s a big double IPA, typical of Stone’s Enjoy By series, made with a dozen types of hops that push it to 90 IBUs. While this expression often showcases a strong tropical fruit bent, this year the beer feels on the muddy side, a danker, more traditional hop character informed by notes of orange peel, burnt butter, and ample pine notes — coming across as heavily bark-like at times. Hopheads will gravitate to it as usual, but more casual beer drinkers may find it rather overwhelming.

Note that this beer also is available in 19.2-oz cans as an option (in addition to other formats), a first for the brand’s Enjoy By series.
