Review: The Traveler Beer Co. Aloha Pineapple Shandy
The latest in a line of limited-edition seasonal shandies available from this Burlington brewery takes a decidedly non-Vermont twist. Boarding a flight headed west to the land of Gabby Pahinui, Robin Masters, and Laulau, Traveler exchanges the flannel for a floral print with its Aloha Pineapple Shandy.
The nose offers a faint note of ginger, a perfect pairing for the pineapple on the palate, which is mild and inoffensive. Often fruit-based beers infused with pineapple lean on overkill, tasting like an IPA sweetened thoughtlessly mashed with an excess of Dole pineapple juice. However, the balance is pleasantly even and steady right to the lingering finish, which has a nice mixture of other citrus fruits, malt and light honey.
While not the most exciting shandy of their limited collection, a tip of the cap to Traveler for choosing to do things a bit more eccentric and independently. Just like the folks of Vermont.
