Review: Quilt 2015 Chardonnay and 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
We last encountered Quilt late last year during its inaugural release of Napa cabernet. Today we look at Quilt’s second release of the same wine — in its Reserve form — plus its 2015 chardonnay, also sourced from Napa fruit.
2015 Quilt Chardonnay Napa Valley – A more traditional chardonnay, but one that is filtered through lemon and grapefruit peel, with a slightly sherried, acidic edge. The finish is sweet-and-sour in equal proportions, with an edge that’s akin to Rose’s Lime Juice. B+ / $36
2013 Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Napa Valley – Inky black in color, but surprisingly light on its feet, this cab features notes of currants and black cherries, with a strong thread of mint running through it. The finish sees some candied lemon and orange notes come more to the fore, though a gummy consistency tends to dull the experience. B+ / $112
