Review: Truly Spiked & Sparkling Water

truly

Well folks, we’re at peak, er… peak something. How do I know? Because in this world of alcohol-spiked oddities including Mexican frescas, whipped cream, and sports drinks, now we have the ultimate in ready-to-drink concoctions: spiked water.

Truly is — much to my surprise — not a malt beverage, but rather gets its alcohol from a cane sugar distillate. Low in calories (100) and sugar (1 gram), these are designed for the “club soda with a twist” set… but who decide they want a splash of the hard stuff in there after all. Four flavors are available, in both bottles and cans.

We tasted a trio of offerings from the available mixed pack. Thoughts follow.

Truly Spiked & Sparkling Colima Lime – A dirty G&T, very fizzy with a bit of lime zest that hits the palate. Surprisingly refreshing, with almost no discernable alcohol character to it. If I was going to drink a “hard seltzer,” this is probably what I’d choose. B+

Truly Spiked & Sparkling Pomegranate – On the nose this has that immediately evident strawberry-sweet berry note, which follows through as a vague candylike character on the palate. This is short-lived, however, eventually giving way to a similarly neutral, ultra-fizzy finish. B-

Truly Spiked & Sparkling Grapefruit & Pomelo – By far the most fragrant of the bunch, with a big floral nose that doesn’t immediately say grapefruit but which eventually kinda-sorta resembles it. The body is more flavorful than the above as well, though it comes across with a sweet-and-sour kind of note that ultimately feels somewhat off-putting. C

Please elaborate, you drank too much and you blame them? Or it made you ill after drinking just one? I’ve had plenty and had no ill effect, so I can only assume that it was self induced on your part.

It’s the company’s fault that you drank too much??

This stuff is nasty bad. I bought a case from Costco Kirland Signature thinking that all of their Kirkland products are top notch. Wow … can’t believe that Costco put this stuff under their name and on the shelves. Tastes horrid!

I just tried Truly spiked Grapefruit/Pomelo as was only flavor Ralph’s market carried for some reason.. not good, very bitter, will be returning it in morning..may give other brands a try, especially in lime/lemon. Very disappointed as I looked forward to this stuff since I need low carb and is 107 outside!

This stuff is the worst tasting beverage i have ever had, tastes like rubbing alcohol with a splash of flavor. Not sure what flavor, sure as hell wasn’t raspberry. Will not buy ever again.

Truly Spiked and Sparkling is fantastic. It isn’t sweet. It doesn’t taste nasty like hard liquor. It’s not filling like beer. It’s like Perrier with a twist of (whatever), with a slight alcohol taste. It packs a punch so be careful with quantity consumed. It makes me burp a lot, I wish they made an unsparkling version too, or just one with less gas.

I drink, I’ve drank and I’ve gotten drunk but truly by far is the most amazing experience in a drink because it don’t take you too far but just enough. Kinda like a night with a man who plays n all the right ways without over bearing or too weak n satisfying all the right body parts!!! Complete Orgasm of all buzzes. Afterall being able to feel good and maintain is TRULY an amazing experience!! Try

Not good, I’m a bartender and this is not tasty at all, very artificial flavors, not something that you want to keep on drinking, taste like pure GMOs , it might be good as a chaser or a cocktail topping but to have fun just with it, shucks big time, so sorry I spent 17 $ in this crab I couldn’t even drinks

Disgusting. Mostly you taste the seltzer. It has a salty taste, I had to throw my out. A total waste of money

This has to be the worst tasting beverage of any kind I have ever tasted. Bought two 24oz cans. Took 1 drink from both and poured each out in turn. Absolutely awful.
