The annual unveiling of the Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau is an event that sends the wine world into a frenzy of hyperbole and spectacle. This year of course is no exception. For its 30th anniversary release, Georges Duboeuf has partnered with techno illusionist Marco Tempest to create a bottle which will incorporate a smart phone app users can download and enjoy while sipping on a glass. This year’s vintage will be available starting November 15th. A media intensive campaign has been rolled out, including a sci-fi inspired video with Tempest. [PR Newswire]

Continuing on from our previous story of Johnnie Walker’s partnership with Porsche Design Studio: the duo has produced a design-geek heavy video giving a behind the scenes look into the collaboration. [YouTube]

Gourmet food icons Harry & David are moving into the wine world with an inaugural selection of five red wines — Tempranillo, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, and Royal Crest Red — and four white wines — Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürtztraminer, and Chardonnay.  All vintages will be selected from Oregon vineyards, a region we’ve profiled heavily in the past few months. The company is still working out the permits to ship the bottles to states where wine shipping is allowed.  [Press release via Harry & David]

The holiday season is encroaching upon us at a fast rate, but for the malt lover in your life, we may have found the perfect early gift for you: an advent calendar with 24 samplings from various whisky distilleries, including a 50 year old single malt somewhere in the mix.  [Master of Malt]
