Original Recipe: The Dow Jones Industrial Average Cocktail

Original Recipe: The Dow Jones Industrial Average Cocktail

Coming to my holiday party tonight? Here’s the original cocktail crafted just for the event that you’ll be drinking tonight. Give your liver a pep talk.

The inspiration is obvious: Economic collapse. The DJIA Cocktail (or the Dow Cocktail, if you prefer) is meant to be bittersweet to remind us of the hard times we’ve gotten through so far, inspire us over the better days ahead, and hopefully knock us out so we needn’t think about it all for the rest of the night.

I hope.

(In reality, it is mostly sweet… because otherwise who would drink it?)

The Dow Jones Industrial Average
1 oz. vodka
1/2 oz. passion fruit vodka (I’m using Skyy)
1 1/2 oz. cranberry juice
2 dashes Peychaud bitters
overproof rum as a float (I’m using 155-proof Braddah Kimo’s Da’ Bomb Extreme)

Mix the first four ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Float a scant amount of overproof rum and serve.
