The Drinkhacker Bookshelf 2013-2014

Lately we’ve been churning out book reviews at a rather brisk pace, so we thought it would make sense to compile a list pretty much everything we’ve read over the last two years. Titles are linked to our reviews, and purchase links to Amazon are also supplied when available (note: prices may vary between formats and editions).

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 04.18.2014

It’s been a while, but here’s a recap of the best (and worst) of the reviews we’ve featured this month on the site. Compared to the relatively slim pickings last month, this month has been quite full with a wide variety of spirits to satisfy every taste. Don’t miss the special bottling of that 21 year old Springbank. Happy shopping!

The A-List March 2014

Welcome to another edition of the A-List, our monthly review of the best and brightest products we’ve had the privilege to sample over the past month. Compared to last month’s (relatively) barren list, March saw a major uptick in the quality and quantity of the products that have come across our desks. Lots of quality single malts and Irish whiskies to pick from, as well as some wines surprisingly easy on the pocketbook as well as the taste buds.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 03.28.2014

Welcome to another edition of the Drinkhacker Shopping List. This week’s list features a much more diverse range of spirits than in previous weeks, just in time for the end of March Madness and the beginning of spring time. We’ve also reviewed an incredible number of books over the past month, with more reviews on the way in April. Enjoy!

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 02.28.2014

Welcome to our semi-regular Shopping List, where we detail the best and worst of our reviews in one compact, printable, easy-to-use informative graphic. February appeared to be Irish whiskey month, with an unusual amount of new releases headed our way. We also hung out in the big easy for a spell and received an incredible amount of new recipes to check out. Another solid month of quality indulgence in the books!

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 02.14.2014

While this edition is a bit lean on the reviews and selection, we’ve still had some great stuff over the past two weeks, both in quality and quantity. Once again Evan Williams comes correct with its Single Barrel Vintage, an excellent value year after year, and Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur most certainly spices things up in one’s glass. Also, per request we’ve included prices for each of these products as well. Thanks for the feedback!

The A-List January 2014

In contrast to last month, the A-List this month is heavily packed with a number of high quality spirits and wines for your consideration. By request, we’ve also listed the suggested retail price for each item when available (some items may have been reviewed at a tasting event where pricing information was not readily available). Some of these items may be easier to find than others, and some may already be gone and off the shelves due to their limited run. Happy hunting and happy drinking.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 01.24.2014

Hello and welcome to the semi-regular feature we’ve come to know and love as the Shopping List, our look back at some of the best and worst tipples we’ve tried over the last few weeks. Along with this list we’ve also been fortunate enough to have expansive tasting reports for St. Emilion Bordeaux wines, Ferrari-Carano, and J Vineyards. Have a great weekend, and stay warm!

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 01.10.2014

Welcome to the first edition of the Drinkhacker Shopping List for 2014. For those just tuning in, the Shopping List is a printer friendly compendium of the best and the worst of our reviews over the last several weeks. In a peculiar turn of events, this edition features plenty of vodkas and liqueurs but is scant on bourbon and scotch. Hang in there, as we have plenty of whisk(e)y reviews coming down the pipeline!

The A-List November 2013

In contrast to last month’s cornucopia, this month’s edition of the A-List features fewer brands hitting the mark. However, between the annual gift guide and this list, we’re fully confident you’ll be armed and ready to head to the liquor store with a multitude of high quality options to choose from.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 11.16.2013

Welcome to the Shopping List, our semi-regular printer-friendly portable check list of everything we’ve covered over the past several weeks. This edition features a whole slew of vodkas, brandies and cognacs we’ve had the pleasure to review, and a few experiences that were less than pleasurable. Either way it’s our duty and privilege to sample these in order to make you a better informed consumer, and help pick just the right spirit for your upcoming Thanksgiving holiday events.

The A-List October 2013

This month’s edition of the A-List is one of the most jam packed we’ve had in quite sometime, thanks to the plethora of great new options (and some classics revisited) we’ve had the luck to sample this month. As no doubt you can tell, the spirits have been of absolute quality and there is no reason for you to leave your local hooch shop this month without something fantastic in your bag.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 10.25.2013

Happy Friday and welcome to another edition of the Shopping List, the absolute best and the worst of what we’ve reviewed over the past several weeks. Though it seems as if bourbon release season is finally winding down, we had one heck of a run with some excellent scotches in this edition, with the Laphroaig Cairdeas getting the rare A+ rating. We also visited this year’s WhiskyFest San Francisco and came back with a full report, including marks for this year’s edition of the non-stolen Pappy.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 10.11.2013

This week’s Shopping List is dominated by bourbons once again, as we seem to be in the full throes of bourbon release season for 2013. No doubt the coveted slot for our bourbon pick in this year’s holiday gift guide will have some pretty steep competition. Also worth checking out for a quick read: Chris’s post on grading and critiquing. Definitely some points to consider when making up your own mind on anything we’ve reviewed on the site. Have a great weekend!

The A-List September 2013

This month’s worth of reviews saw a lot of brands and releases right on the cusp of making it with a B+ grading, not enough to earn a spot on the A-List for September. However, kudos to Buffalo Trace for dominating the spirits section with their Experimental and Antique collections, as well as offering an assist to the up-and-coming Bowman Brothers brand. We’ll be taking a break from the A-List for a few months to ready the 2013 edition of our Holiday Gift Guide, and working on our year-end best of lists as well.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 09.27.2013

It’s been a bit, but here’s the latest edition of our semi-regular Shopping List, summing up the best and worst of everything we’ve reviewed over the past several weeks. Bourbon season is definitely in full swing, with the Buffalo Trace Experimental and Antique Collections dominating the crowd. And with new maple flavored editions from Beam and Knob Creek right around the corner and the annual Van Winkle nationwide frenzy just on the horizon, it seems as if there’s no sign of the momentum slowing any time soon. As always, we’ll be here drinking away and delivering our thoughts.

The A-List August 2013

Welcome to the A-List, our monthly look back at the best of the best that we’ve had the privilege to review over the past month. August was a sharp improvement from the otherwise sluggish summer months, with a great balance of spirits, wines, and beers that were impressive, especially in the Pinot Noir section. Bourbons also made a strong showing with the Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch and Parker’s Heritage Collection’s Promise of Hope offerings.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 08.30.2013

After a brief hiatus, the semi-regular Drinkhacker Shopping List returns as a regularly scheduled feature. These past few weeks have seen an incredibly generous helping of wine reviews, intermingled with some of the best bourbons we’ve tasted this entire year. Print this easily portable list and be sure to take it with you as a reference guide during your trip to the store this holiday weekend!

TheList0830131 525x1163 The Drinkhacker Shopping List 08.30.2013

We’ve also had several extensive tasting reports worthy of your time and attention:

2011 Vintage Port (and Beyond)
Vini d’Italia Tour 2013
Pinot Days 2013

The A-List June 2013

This month’s A-List is the shortest since its inception. Perhaps its the time of year when the new release schedule is a bit slower, but the wide variety we’ve become spoiled with month after month was reduced. One company, Sazerac, dominated our marks in the spirits category with three of its new bourbon-barrel-finished tequilas hitting the spot, as well as an inclusion a bottle from its ongoing Single Oak Barrel project. Beaulieu vineyard also provided us with some lovely summer sipping courtesy of its Cabernet, Pinot Noir and Reserve blend.

The Drinkhacker Shopping List – 06.07.2013

It’s been a few weeks since our last one, but here’s the latest from the Shopping List…our regular look back at the best (and the worst) of the newest products we’ve reviewed. Most of these are readily available at your local retailer, but some may require visiting a specialty shop or deeper investigation.
