Drinkhacker Reads – 02.12.2013 – Absolut Takes On Chicago; Timberlake Takes On Budweiser

In keeping with the spirit of letting artists rule the roost when it comes to creating bold new editions of its city-themed vodkas, Absolut has decided to crowdsource its next edition to the design community over at Threadless, challenging folks to design a bottle for Chicago. Submissions are now being accepted, and the grand prize winner will receive $10,000 and their design on a limited edition bottle. [Threadless]

CELEBRITY PRODUCT ENDORSEMENT OF THE WEEK: Everyone’s favorite ’90s boy band survivor Justin Timberlake has signed on with Budweiser to be the creative director for its Bud Light Platinum line. Timberlake will be in charge of essentially everything but selling the beer, bringing “cultural, musical, and creative curation” to the table. No doubt he’ll do just as well over at Bud Light as he did in his previous position at MySpace. [PR Newswire]

While the headline of the article is most certainly open to contentious debate, BuzzFeed attempts to craft an argument as to why brandy is the ideal winter beverage. This could prove especially useful for those snowed in on the east coast of the U.S. [BuzzFeed]

The middle of May often brings about warm and pleasant weather, the tease of summer’s arrival and the anticipation of Memorial Day celebrations. However, May 13-19 has also been declared American Craft Beer Week, with celebrations being planned throughout the entire nation, celebrating the hard-working microbrewers who champion the industry. For more information on events near you, check the official webpage. We’ll be highlighting some of them in various cities over the next few months. [Craft Beer]

Coming sooner than American Craft Beer Week is National Margarita Day, specifically February 22nd. This initiative is a largely independent movement which has found excitement and participation from singer/parrot fanatic/laidback-good-guy Jimmy Buffett. His chain of Margaritaville establishments will host Margaritaville University, a complimentary margarita-making class from 3pm to 4pm that day. No word on whether or not participants will receive free cheeseburgers with lettuce, tomato, Heinz 57, and french fries. [National Margarita Day]
